While live music and touring were on lockdown, fans as well as artists were going through some major withdrawals. We wanted to come up with something fun to help bridge that distance between fans and artists. What we came up with is  something called The Lockdown Lowdown and it’s a Q&A session with fun questions for artists to answer. We cover artists from all around the globe and these are not your typical interview questions, so this gives you a peek inside of the artists themselves. We’re big music nerds here at I’m Music Magazine and we love learning things like this about the artists that we love. We’re pretty sure that you’ll get a kick out of these, so we hope you’ll take the time to read them. In this installment, we sat down for a fun Q&A session with Sascha Blach, vocalist for The Halo Trees.

1. How have you been doing during the pandemic and how are you spending your time?

We had already largely finished our new album “Summergloom” before the start of the Corona period, so the pandemic had no major impact. Except that we could take more time to complete the record. We’ve been waiting all this time for live shows to be more predictable again, but after that remained a back and forth, at some point we said to ourselves, never mind, we’ll just release the album now. So it was released at the beginning of October 2021. Unfortunately, our bass player left because of Corona, because he wanted to build up a second mainstay professionally. As far as I’m concerned, Corona has hardly influenced me professionally. I still have a lot to do, which is definitely a good thing, even if the time for the music is sometimes a bit scarce as a result.

2. Have you been working on new music?

We actually do that all the time. While we were still in the final production of “Summergloom”, there were enough new songs for a third album, the recordings of which are currently in progress. We hope to be able to come up with this in 2022. But now the focus is on “Summergloom”, which we are extremely proud of.

3. 5 albums that changed your life

Phew, that’s difficult, because of course there are many more. And I wouldn’t say that they changed my life, but rather that I love them very much. We currently have a series on our Facebook page where we present some of our favourite albums and now I’m going to pick a few out of them. Disordered and without claim to completeness: Radiohead “Kid A”, The Smashing Pumpkins “Adore”, The National “High Violet”, Sigur Rós “Ágætis byrjun” and “The Doors” by The Doors, of course.

4. 5 artists that influenced you as a musician.

The 5 among the best albums for sure and to avoid duplication I add The Beatles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Björk and Led Zeppelin.

5. Your 5 favorite live albums

I’m not a huge fan of live albums, so I have trouble getting five together at all. I choose AC/DC “Live”, Nirvana, “MTV Unplugged in New York”, Alice In Chains “Unplugged”, Pink Floyd “Pulse” and Eric Clapton “Unplugged”.

6. Life on the road; 5 of the craziest/funniest/scariest tour stories

I am not a collector of anecdotes and humor lives from the moment. So I have to skip that one.

7. 5 favorite movies

Fight Club (1999), Corpse Bride (2005), Kill Bill 1 (2003), Antichrist (2009), The Lord Of The Ring 1-3 (2001-2003)

8. Best and worst advice you ever heard.

Probably the best advice is live in the moment. Even if it’s not always easy, it saves you a lot of worries. And I quickly forget bad advice 😉

9. Strangest thing you ever autographed

An arm, because if you don’t want to get your signature tattooed, it will be gone after the next shower!? Or directly on a CD … I would be afraid that it then no longer runs. We also had to sign an old school book. Across mathematics formulas, haha. Well, if it brings the people joy …

10. If music was over today and you had to go into professional wrestling, what would your wrestling name be?

I would be so lost that I wouldn’t be worth bearing a wrestling name at all, haha. But creative question I’ve never had before. Thank you for the interview.
